Fresh wax is colorless as glass, but on contact with pollen and propolis it turns yellow - from very light yellow to yellowish brown. Minerals, vegetable pigments (such as various carotenes) and essential oils give the wax its characteristic color and aroma. The smell of wax is also formed from honey, pollen and propolis. In the sunlight, the wax fades. If the wax is high in propolis, it may have a greenish tinge. One kilogram of wax requires four kilograms of honey. When burning a wax candle, the melted wax partially evaporates and fills the room with a pleasant smell. The wax burns without residue, but the evaporated essential oils are released into the air.
