Fresh wax is colorless like glass, but in contact with pollen and propolis it turns yellow - from very light yellow to yellow-brown. Minerals, plant pigments (for example, various carotenes) and essential oils give the wax its characteristic color and smell. The smell of wax is also formed from honey, pollen and propolis. Wax fades in sunlight. If the wax contains a lot of propolis, it can have a greenish tint. The production of one kilogram of wax requires four kilograms of honey. When burning a wax candle, the melted wax partially evaporates and fills the room with a pleasant smell. The wax burns without residue, but vaporized essential oils enter the air.
